Thanks to Style court I discovered two great things, the fabulous shop Paris Hotel Boutique (they have a fabulous vintage book collection as well as many other gorgeous items) and the wonderful story of Osa Johnson. The first book about her life is I MARRIED ADVENTURE and the second is FOUR YEARS IN PARADISE. The titles alone are exciting let alone their beautiful presentation. I can't wait to get the books. You can find them at Paris Hotel Boutique if you want the first editions. Also check out Paris Hotel Boutique Journal. It's a great blog to add to your daily reads.
The original books pictured below are gorgeous and are very popular in interior design.

I had the great fortune to go to Africa when I was 12 (photos coming soon, I'm still scanning them) and it changed my life forever. Not only for birthing my photography career but for the beauty of nature and feeling of adventure! Osa Johnson and the story of her adventures with the famous George Eastman (yes of Eastman Kodak!) reminds me of my favorite movie of all time, OUT OF AFRICA. Aren't these pictures just fabulous!

When I was little I dreamed of having a zebra to ride just like in Swiss Family Robinson! Good thing I hadn't seen this picture for proof it was possible as my parents never would have heard the end of it!

This is wonderful!
I feel the same way about Africa -- although unfortunately I've never been. How exciting that you went so young. Can't wait to see your photos. Thanks for sharing all this and for the kind shout-out.
Cheers,
Courtney
I am so glad to find your site. Wonderful and informative post on Osa Johnson. I think her life and work is really inspiring a new generation.
Well I really must have this book now. It is getting such a lot of blogging press. Thanks for sharing. I got the chance to go to Africa. I took my daughter on Safari for her 19th birthday (lucky girl) and we have so many wonderful memories of it.
I really need to get a copy of those books now!
What a beautiful post.
Have you ever had a chance to get your Africa photos scanned. Let me know. I'd be interested in seeing them. Mine are still all in a box and I need a little inspiration to get myself going. I finally got a copy of I Married Adventure and also Four Years in Paradise.
