Running the Numbers

I came across photographer Chris Jordan's work on PopPhoto.com and I was blown away. The environment and the global warming statistics have been very much on my mind having recently seen the 11th Hour (which I highly recommend as it was very uplifting and there were lots of great ideas).

Chris Jordan has visualized what everyone has been saying in a way that is amazing. It is so mind blowing that after looking at his photos you will without a doubt want to immediately change everything you do and live as green as possible.

I have been trying to do this in my business for some time by using sustainable goods such as making my silk screened t-shirts from bamboo and organic cotton, working with glass beads from Africa for my jewelry line made from recycled coke bottles, using an environmental house cleaning service called Green Clean. Soon I will have the Green Clean tip of the day.

Thank You Chris Jordan for making what everyone has being saying for years visual so people really understand what needs to be done. The images will captivate you and make you think. I think everyone should see his site and pass his work on to others. Here are a few:

Cans Seurat, 2007
60x92"

Depicts 106,000 aluminum cans, the number used in the US every thirty seconds.

Paper Bags, 2007

Depicts 1.14 million brown paper supermarket bags, the number used in the US every hour.

OohLaLa Beach Dwelling!

Beach Dwelling is my new favorite store that was recently featured in Cottage Living (July/August issue). It is located in Birmingham, Alabama so unfortunately I will only be able to visit online.

I so want to crawl in here and go to sleep!

I love how imaginative this pirate ship chandelier is!
I could handle this after a long day!
You know how I love furniture with casters!
and the color blue!
Just seems so airy and bright!
These old fashion food covers are hard to find and one this big is amazing!
Naptime by the sea! Looks a little adventuresome. Hope it's not high tide. Fun to look at!

I love drift wood furniture!
ummmmm this just looks nice!
I love this bar and the way it will reflect the light.
and last....doesn't this look peaceful!

OohLaLa Leather!

I rode horses for years and I don't know if that's why I love it but one thing is true, I love good leather! It makes me happy. Check out Domino's Gallery on gorgeous leather items. OohLaLa Domino does it again! The navy blue couch below took my breath away. Do you think Ralph Lauren will consider renaming it The Bueller?

A beautiful corner chair from American Leather. I love this steel gray:
Two beautiful ottomans from Elite Leather. I love the gold trim on the bottom. Very chic!
I love this gorgeous honey leather chair by Drexel Heritage that makes me want to curl up with a good book. It reminds me of a Palomino I used to ride. Gorgeous color!
Lastly, some inspiration rooms. I just love these. OohLaLa!

My Studio Makeover

I have finally completed making over my studio / project room. I couldn't be more excited about my project table from Pier 1 imports. It's small and sleek enough to fit in the small area I have for my studio. It also has so much storage space it made it possible for me to organize all my projects. Here are my before and after pictures. I still have more organizing and simplifying to do and I am TOTALLY open to suggestions. I wanted to paint the walls blue but because I rent I decided to cover them with my photographs and my moms art instead. I think I like it better to be surrounded by my inspiration. I would love o hear your thoughts. How did I do?

NEW PHOTO TILES!

These are my new photo-tiles. I make each coaster by hand by transferring my photographs onto tumbled marble tile.

The top one is a photograph of the work of street artist Swoon. She is incredible. I took this on the lower east side. The others are my various still-lifes.

Because each one is hand made there may be some imperfections which is part of the process. They have a shabby chic look. They can be hung on the wall with small picture hooks or they can be used as coasters. They are waterproof and can be put in the dishwasher. They are backed with small rubber feet to protect your furniture or wall.

I'm doing them all in limited edition sets with only 10 made of each, all available in my shop.

What do you think?

I will be featuring something Eco Friendly each week.

Front page treasury!

I was very excited this morning to click on Etsy and find Ocean Waves (the middle/right photo) on the front page!! I think it's a great looking poster and a really wonderful selection of things! Just click on the images to see them bigger!

Let the beach come to you!

I haven't been able to get to the beach recently because of the show. The show was a huge success by the way! A BIG BIG thank you to Vanessa at Turquoise. It was very successful. I digress, I have been so busy that I had to bring the beach to me. This is my new series now in my shop.

OohLaLa, more from Gunkelman-Flesher

Kari at Gunkelman-Flesher was kind enough to email over a photo of Gunkelman's condo in Minneapolis which was featured in Metropolitan Home. I just love love love this room. It's so fresh, has such interest and yet feels intimate. I love the variety of textures, shades of white and combination of styles. What exceptional style! Oohlala!

OohLaLofty!

I have always wanted a loft. The high ceilings, the space, the open air plan, and all that light. This one was designed by the well known Gunkelman-Flesher, a design firm lead by Tom Gunkelman, who is inspired by architect Mie van der Rohe's philosophy that "less is more". I would have to say from these pictures that I agree. This loft that they designed in Minneapolis is just gorgeous! I think I'll make it my dream loft!
